NVIDIA Pledges Support for TempoQuest GPU WRF Project

Thank you for recent information regarding the next phase of your business plan. Following the discussions with TempoQuest executives and review of your past accomplishments, NVIDIA would like to express our interest and support for the TQI CUDA WRF project. NVIDIA considers WRF the most important numerical weather prediction and regional climate model worldwide, and we are very excited at the possibility of WRF software that will enable new markets that benefit from high-fidelity, scale-resolving simulations owing to GPU technology.

With the introduction of the general purpose Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in 2004, NVIDIA set a milestone in high performance computing. Since then, NVIDIA expertise developed in programmable GPUs has led to breakthroughs in parallel computing, while also providing cost-efficient HPC solutions. NVIDIA would like to offer this expertise and other resources to ensure success in the CUDA WRF project.

NVIDIA would like to contribute to the CUDA WRF project with providing the following resources:

  • Seed-GPU technology of the latest NVIDIA Tesla’s to TQI partners, SSEC and Hyper Sensing, LLC for local WRF development purposes
  • Providing TQI partners with remote access to the large GPU cluster at NVIDIA Santa Clara for performance testing
  • Technical guidance to TQI partners on applications engineering from the NVIDIA Developer Technology group
  • Technical support TQI partners on hardware and software technology; cluster access and use; bug fix support
  • Marketing, sales, and distribution support of CUDA WRF through an alliance led by TQI business objectives

NVIDIA are interested in this project in two respects. We are generally interested in supporting innovative and promising approaches to demonstrating capabilities of GPU technology to relevant real-life applications. Further, NVIDIA have interest in the experiences to be gained with implementing an optimized GPU-based WRF that can apply to a global advancement of weather and climate prediction.

TempoQuest, TQI, is a “weather software as a service” company established to meet the need for faster, more accurate weather forecasts. Today, TQI is in the process of developing unique software, which will deliver next-generation weather forecasts to commercial users and government agencies around the world. Development efforts are currently underway with the time to first release estimated to be 18 months.

TempoQuest’s suite of software solutions are being designed to run on graphic processor unit accelerators (GPUs) instead of CPUs, NVIDIA. This will dramatically increase the speed and accuracy of analysis. Though GPU accelerators are currently in use for other ‘big data’ applications, the technology has not yet been applied to comprehensive weather data analysis.

NVIDIA Corporation has committed to providing TempoQuest with support and assistance, including , technical support on application engineering, hardware and software integration as well as marketing, sales and distribution assistance for the TQI’s GPU forecasting product.

As currently practiced, satellite sensors, drones, radar, etc., will continue to collect global weather data. TempoQuest will then process this data and provide it to today’s major specialist weather companies, such as The Weather Company, AccuWeather, and others. For several of their high-value end users, like commodity traders, insurance firms, power utilities, major agricultural companies, etc., speed and accuracy are critical to the success of their businesses and an extremely valuable asset.

The expenses for this business are relatively modest as the main cost is continued development and maintenance of the software. Sales channels are current commercial providers of weather forecasts. Therefore, the business has inherently high operating leverage and each incremental user is highly profitable.

LAS VEGAS, NV, DECEMBER 18, 2014 — A veteran meteorological management team today announced establishment and initial funding for a new company focused on significantly improving the speed and accuracy of regional weather forecasts.

“TempoQuest,” the new company, is developing proprietary computer software that according to Edward A. Keible, Jr., Executive Chairman, CEO and co-founder, “will dramatically accelerate the speed of processing existing Weather Regional Forecasting (WRF) data, resulting in dramatically shortened weather forecast times and greatly enhanced forecast accuracy.”

Joining Mr. Keible in the new venture as Principal Technical Advisor is Dr. Allen Huang, a distinguished scientist from the Space Science and Engineering Center at the University of Wisconsin, and Eugene P. Pache, Jr. who will serve as President and Chief Operating Officer. All three of the company’s principals have previous experience developing and managing atmospheric weather data acquisition and reporting technologies for commercial ventures on a global scale.

“A major disruption to commerce is weather, and fast, accurate regional forecasting is the critical solution to mitigating those disruptions, as well as protecting human lives and property,” said Mr. Keible. “TempoQuest’s first software solution, called AceCAST™, will improve current forecasting model speeds by a factor greater than 10 times,” he explained, adding that the company expects the product to be available worldwide by 2016.

“To augment the seed funding our launch team has invested, we’re currently seeking outside investor participation, and will announce shortly the completion of strategic partnerships with several leading technology providers in the chip manufacturing and processing applications areas,” he said.
